The Linksys WRT150N Wireless-N Home Router - Performance, Ports and Antennas

The Linksys WRT150N has been placed in the consumer category but I don’t have any doubt that this router would work fine for a small business of 1 to 20 employees. In this article I will communicate information about the performance, ports, and antennas. The Linksys WRT150N wireless router has good performance. Tests have shown that under a 90Mbps connection the wireless-N can perform at 90Mbps. This 90Mbps speed can be obtained easily up to 25 feet away from the wireless router. At about 50 feet the router can perform in the range of about 65Mbps to 67Mbps. Remarkably, at roughly 85 feet the WRT150N can transfer data at 75Mbps to 77Mbps. This is great for the person that needs to put some distance between their computer and the wireless router. The Linksys WRT150N wireless router has four 10/100 LAN ports and one 10/100 WAN port available. The Linksys uses the MIMO antenna technology. (Multiple Input Multiple Output) Pronounced "my-mo," it is the use of multiple transmitters and receivers (multiple antennas) on wireless devices for improved performance. When two transmitters and two or more receivers are used, two simultaneous data streams can be sent, which double the data rate. Multiple receivers alone allow greater distances between devices. The upcoming IEEE 802.11n wireless standard uses MIMO to, at a minimum, double the 54 Mbps speed of 802.11a and 802.11g to 108 Mbps. One disappointment the Linksys does not have the file-and-print server built-in. The Apple AirPort Extreme is the only one under $200 that I could find that has this feature. Overall the Linksys is still a good buy, has good wireless performance and an intuitive admin interface that Linksys owners have grown to expect. Are you also looking for deals on the router?
