WARNING: eMachine owners beware! T2085 in particular.

Recently, I was working on an eMachine T2085 for a customer of mine. The power supply failed. I replaced the power supply; however, after the power supply was replaced. The emachine would not boot. The HD, CD, DVD and flopply would light up momentarily but the monitor would not. The BIOS process did not start.

So I tried the usual remove the CMOS battery steps…no joy. So I knew it was time to replace the motherboard. I thought it was a little strange that the motherboard would fry after a power supply outage. So I began to do a little talking with my contemporaries. I found out that with eMachines in general, made in 2002,2003,and 2004, this was a common occurrence. So then I began to dig deeper into this eMachine won’t boot, power supply, motherboard fried issue and I found this from techspot :

“To all Emachine owners!! Buy a new psu (power supply unit) and fit it in as soon as you possibly can!!!!

The standard psu’s blow and take the mobo (motherboard) with them!!!!

Emachine’s will charge you a small fortune for it!! Spending a little on a new psu could save you a lot of money in the long run!!!!

You have been warned!!!!”

The power supply is a Bestec ATX-250-12E. If you have this Power Supply in your eMachine T2085 - or any eMachine for that matter - replace it fast!
