Outlook 2003 gets error then crashes on startup
Each time you start Outlook in crashes and want to send a report to Microsoft. To troubleshoot this problem, there are two usually easy ways to find out what is causing the crash.
The first troubleshooting task is to see if the outlook mail database itself is the problem.
To do this:
- Go to start menu => run
- type: outlook.exe /cleanpst
I this fixes outlook and it starts without crashing then it is your outlook database is corrupt. You may be able to fix it by locating your database by searching you system for a file ending in .pst. Once you find this file. Run the scanpst utililty on the file and that may fix it. Scanpst.exe is also on your computer. I believe the Outlook installation places it in one of your directories.
If the above command outlook.exe /cleanpst does not fix the crash, try this command:
- Go to start menu => run
- type: outlook.exe /profiles
If there is another profile except your profile, pick it and see if outlook will start without crashing. If this works, you can try this command:
- Go to start menu => run
- type: outlook.exe /cleanprofile
This will reset your registry keys and give you a clean profile to work with. You can set up you email accounts, directories, etc. as you need them
