How to remove/upgrade/replace/add a hard drive to Compaq S5200NX
Hard drives in the Compaq S5200NX are not hard to replace. They are difficult if you do not understand the videos on the HP and Compaq Desktop PCs - Installing or Replacing a Hard Drive page. The one thing missed that you should know deals with the front cover.
The video page says:“On some cases, it may be necessary to remove the front of the PC so that you can remove the drive cage. If so, press in on the tabs that retain the front cover, there should three to four on each side of the cover and gently pull forward. It helps to have a friend help with this process. Carefully detach any cables that may also be attached to the front cover.”
This is not entirely correct. The tabs are not on the side of the cover. They are underneath the cover inside the metal case. You need to look for the tabs inside the case under the hard drive cage against the front wall of the metal case. Gently push them to unsnap the front cover from the case and then you can get the hard drive out of the case.
