Most people want a printer that will print their documents simply and reliably. If you are a home user and this sounds like you, the Lexmark Z22 printer using Lexmark Z22 ink may be a good choice for you. Now, this printer will likely have to be bought refurbished or used at the time of this writing, but if you come across one and are confident in the seller, you may want to consider this machine.

The printer made most of its owners happy when it was produced. It was noted to have worked reliably and made pretty nice color prints as well with Lexmark ink. One of the most common plusses noted about this printer was its great price. If you come cross this machine, however, take note that it was not made for modern computers. A Windows XP user will have to download a driver from the manufacturer’s web page and Windows Vista users may be out of luck (I haven’t tested this myself).

When you purchase a printer like this, one of your highest considerations will be its price - especially since you are probably looking at it used or refurbished if you are buying it now. If you do come across this opportunity, this will want to be a big factor into your decision. Also make sure you are comfortable with the used product or buying refurbished machines in general. The good news is that Lexmark Z22 ink is still available (at around forty bucks).

Like I mentioned earlier, the casual user is best suited for this printer. It has a print speed of just under seven pages per minute for black and white, and under four for color prints. This will actually be just fine for most home users that are, for example, printing step-by-step directions from a mapping website. If you are a big home or business user, however, you will probably be irritated by the slow speed.

Another possible hang-up with this printer is the fact that it requires one of two Lexmark Z22 ink, only allowing one to be installed at a time. This is how it works: you use one color cartridge to print regular color copies, and the other kind of cartridge to print photos. You will have to switch them out as your color needs change. Again, if you are a low-volume user, this might not be a big deal.

You will also want to know what it can do for you, and if that matches what you need from it. It will take paper as small as 3 by 5 inches, and as large as 8.5 by 17 inches. It holds one hundred sheets of paper at a time, and twenty pages of photo paper and ten envelopes. This printer can interface with your computer by either a parallel or USB cord.

As a respected computer peripheral manufacturing company, you can feel pretty safe with the brand name or Lexmark. They were described as one of the most admired companies of their field by Fortune magazine, and have grown their operations since 1991 to a company that makes about five billion dollars in revenue a year.

If you end up with this machine, expect the Lexmark Z22 ink to cost about $35-45 dollars and be available at online ink retailers. Also expect to find a great deal for a decent printer. Add Lexmark ink and go forth and print!
