Lexmark Optra E - The Only Way To Work

Thinking about buying a Lexmark Optra e - Lexmark Optra e toner? Then take a moment to think about another printer because the Optra e has been discontinued. That’s right not available from the manufacturer anymore folks, but you might still find it online as well as Lexmark Optra E toner. It was a mass market model made by our friends at Lexmark. Don’t worry though they have a lot more models where that one came from.

Laser printers differ from inkjets via the fact that they use lasers to capture the image to be printed. The image is then projected via optical laser onto a rotating, selenium covered drum. After this the drum is charged, toner is then collected onto the charged areas. The drum then applies the toner in the needed patterns to the paper using heat, and direct contact. Although a little more costly than normal printers they are more efficient.

The technology is different than inkjets, so therefore different safety rules apply. If you mess around on the inside of a laser printer you’re likely to get shocked very badly. Laser printers use high voltage electronics so unless you’re a certified technician leave it alone. Don’t worry about the outside however it’s very safe to touch. High voltage surge protectors and safety locks ensure that current never reaches the outside of the machine.

One other hazard from these printers is gases. During the printing process a laser printer can give off small amounts of gases that can form ozone, and nitrogen oxides. Now under normal circumstances this is not a problem as most offices have proper ventilation. Not to mention the fact that the printer has to be working for a long time for these gases to build up.

Their bigger cousins however do need plenty of ventilation. Most businesses that use them have carbon filters in the ventilation system to catch, and filter out the gases. Again this is not harmful if handled properly. Most of the time however there are no repercussions unless you shut the printer up in a closet and turn it on for 10 hours. That might case enough of the gases to build up to cause a health risk, but only in rare cases.

Lexmark however didn’t make a name for itself selling dangerous equipment. Their printers are among the safest, and most reliable in the world. Lexmark services many countries across the globe. They also have a large lineup of scanners, all in one printers, and inkjet printers. They employ over 13000 people worldwide, with 4000 of those in the U.S.

The Optra E printer cartridge used in a laser printer is no different than that used in a normal inkjet. Without ink though, your printer isn’t going to function properly. Unless you like the idea of having a giant paperweight made of plastic, and metal I’d advise you to keep the ink in stock. Toner is available at most major retail stores, and online.

In closing you may be unable to buy the Lexmark Optra e anymore. However you can still get the Optra E printer toner relatively easy online, and in some stores. Lexmark also has information on their website for ordering assistance. They also have technical support, and driver downloads available.
